Araminta Ross, later became Harriet Tubman was born in 1820, Dorchester County, New York. She was know as “Moses of her people.” She led hundreds of slaves to freedom along the Underground Railroad. The Underground Railroad is a secret network of safe house where run away slaves could stay on their journey North to freedom. Her mom and dad were slaves so she was born into slavery. When she was around twelve she got hit was hit in the head with a heavy weight by and overseer and suffered a life long disease of narcolepsy. Narcolepsy is when you suddenly fall asleep wherever you are. Later on Harriet was afraid she was going to be sold so she ran away. She used the Underground Railroad to escape to freedom. Then she went back and rescued hundreds of slaves and led them to freedom.
